The video swallowing act is a radiological method to clarify swallowing difficulties and functional disorders of the throat. Swallowing is a very fast (approx. 1.2 sec) and complex process involving 26 muscles that are supplied by 5 cranial nerves. The reason for this complex situation lies in a peculiarity of the human being: air and food paths cross for the purpose of voice generation. Because of the rapid process, a slow motion analysis of the swallowing act is necessary.
